So You’ve Decided to Have a Baby
Men’s Preparation for a Healthy Conception
My name is Dr. Michael Heard, I’m a board certified reproductive endocrinologist and patients come to see me for a variety of different issues that are related to their reproductive health. For women, their peak fertility is 27; for men it starts to decline after the age of 25.
Women usually come into my office by themselves so having the spouse come in, or the partner, to discuss their own health is really important and you want to make sure their health is the best that it can be.
So, what do I recommend for the male to do?
- I recommend that they see their doctor,
- that they follow a good lifestyle, they have good health habits – like no smoking or cutting out drugs and alcohol while their trying to conceive with their partner,
- watching their nutritional habits closely by eating a balanced diet,
- making sure that they have the most of the appropriate vitamin supplements as well, too; such as selenium, zinc, vitamin B12 and folate.
There are vitamin supplements such as the carnitine-based product Proxeed. It can help improve the sperm quality over a 90-day period.
Men want to know what else they can do, well this is one thing they can do, too.
