Myths about Conception
I’ve been a fertility specialist now for 10-15 years and there are a lot of common myths about getting pregnant. Some people have said that a woman lying on her back with her feet up for 20 minutes after sex may increase the chance of conception. Well, she could get pregnant with her feet down as well.
Sex every day increases the chance of pregnancy. It does, but excessive sex may be detrimental.
A couple conceives quicker if they have sex with the lights on. Women still get pregnant with the lights off all the time, too.
Putting an ice pack on the male genitalia prior to sex increases the chance for pregnancy. I think that would cause more harm than good.
And how about, a female must be lying down to get pregnant. Well, she can get pregnant standing up as well, too.
Many of these along with others, even reported in some journals, are myths of getting pregnant.
How do people get pregnant? When they have intercourse and an egg is released from the ovary and it’s fertilized by the sperm and implants in the uterus. And that’s not a myth. That’s the truth.
