Sperm motility is a term that describes the sperm’s ability to move in an active fashion: in other words, are the sperm “strong swimmers”? In healthy sperm, typically more than 50% are active, with over 25% moving forcefully in one direction. Motility is what enables sperm to travel up the cervical canal, via the uterus to the fallopian tubes and penetrate the egg. It is estimated that in a healthy male, more than 25% of his sperm will exhibit rapid linear progression (forward or straight movement), these sperm have the best chance of success.
